Penny, Leona & the Yami-Pachi Story
Penny is your handler, Leona is the demo's 500 HP boss, and the devs confirmed a Panty & Stocking art influence. More dialogue and character content is explicitly queued for the full release.
Under Yami-Pachi's neon, the "High Roller Rule" turns gambling into a life-or-death spectator sport — and the bunny girls run the table. Here is who you meet in the demo, what the story so far is, and what the developers have said about the cast.

The setup
You are a debtor — beaten half to death and dragged into Yami-Pachi, an underground organization that runs illegal, life-or-death gambling games and uses debtors as the players. Your handler is Penny, the game's namesake: a bunny girl who is, in the official description's words, "a lunatic who cares for nothing but the High Roller."
The wager of the High Roller Rule: bunny girls face off, debtor against house. Win the ladder and your debts are cleared. Lose, and — well, the game's own tagline puts it plainly: "Go big, or get executed on the spot."
Who you meet in the demo
| Character | Role | Demo status |
|---|---|---|
| Penny | Your handler; the face of the game | Appears in dialogue and art; not (yet) a fighting opponent |
| Leona | Rival bunny girl, demo's featured boss | Boss fight with a 500 HP bar; her trick "moves up to 3 random pieces each turn" |
| Shopkeeper | The debt-world merchant who runs the between-round shop | Source of the game's only real tutorial lines — he tells you pegs can move |
| Master Domnu | Mentioned in dialogue ("Even Master Domnu is worried") | Name-dropped only — future content hook |
The demo's official post frames Leona as "a new bunny girl, ready to hand you a crushing defeat" — treat the other rivals as ladders you have not climbed yet.
The art conversation
The community's most-liked thread about the game's look is people trying to place the style. An official reply settled it: the reference the developers leaned on most is Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and the reply confirmed the dialogue-focused, exaggerated-expression direction is intentional. Other comparisons floated by players: Muse Dash and Mad Rat Dead.
What the developers said about the story
- More dialogue is planned. A player who loved the setup but found the dialogue thin got an official reply: "The dialogues are already on our queue… we'll do our best to deliver what you're expecting from the characters."
- Dialogue cadence matters. Community feedback backs a specific recipe: keep story beats after tutorials and between stages, stop replaying the full tutorial monologue after every game over, and never let the shopkeeper's banter block the shop UI. The devs are listening in that thread.
- The trailer song has a full version. If the launch trailer's music stuck in your head, a player found the full track on YouTube and the developers thanked them for it.
Korean roots
High Roller Penny is developed by Kniv Studio, a Korean studio (the team's presence at BIC 2026 was celebrated in the Steam forums by Korean players). Steam lists English, Korean, Japanese and both Chinese localizations for the full game.
